Myanmar is one of the poorest countries and most underdeveloped in Southeast Asia, with a weak and small financial sector. However, there is relatively high demand for microfinancing and the government of Myanmar has embraced development of a better financial system in the country. This assessment aims to identify and explore the current environment of Myanmar economics and the status of its financial sectors, and provide recommendations to increase the accessibility and strength of microfinancing in Myanmar.
