This paper examines the Guatemalan affordable housing context, the housing microfinance program of G and T Continental and how this bank joined micro lending with technical assistance in construction. This multiple service approach by a commercial bank provides some fresh insights on how and why to put the "housing" back into "housing microfinance." G and T Continental has formed alliances with land developers, construction companies, and Guatemala's largest cement manufacturer to assemble value chains that offer a range of high-quality and low-cost housing options for lower income families.
